The autonomous community of 
San Andrés Cohamiata is located in the Municipality of Mezquitic, in the State of Jalisco. San Andrés Cohamiata is 1940 meters above sea level.

In the community there are 1317 inhabitants, 631 men and 686 women. People from outside the State of Jalisco account for 14.50% of the total population. 12.91% of the inhabitants are illiterate (7.13% of the men, and 18.22% of the women). The average school enrolment ratio is 6.08 (7.37 of the men, and 4.94 of the women).

99.77% of the population is indigenous, and 80.41% of the inhabitants speak one of the indigenous languages. 15.64% of the population speaks one of the indigineous languages, but not Spanish.

33.03% of the inhabitants (more than 12 years) are economically active (36.29% of the men, and 30.03% of the women).
